Dear Patrons,
In times of crisis, the Brewster Library spirit is to rally and remain open and be present throughout.  At times like this, every instinct is to gather together.  But today, gathering is precisely the thing that is most harmful.
Today, in response to a growing concern regarding the COVID-19 virus, Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell declared a state of emergency and all schools in the county will be closed for at least the next week. This is unprecedented, conveying the gravity of our circumstance and the necessity for drastic action. As per a policy recently drafted by the Brewster Library Board of Trustees, the library will be closed for at least that period of time as well. It is clear that officials and county medical personnel feel that complete closure of community institutions is required to prevent the spread of this illness.
As of now, library staff will be at the library for limited hours for those of you who would like to pick up materials that have recently arrived at the library through holds placed. Please call the library before coming to ensure someone is there to have your materials ready. Keep all the library materials (books and DVDs) currently in your possession. You will not be charged late fines. Please do not use our drop box.  In a few days, we will provide you with more details.
I also encourage you to take full advantage of all of our e-resources during this time. If you are not familiar with all of the digital services we provide, please explore our website. If you have any questions or need assistance, don’t hesitate to call the library at 845-279-6421 (leave a message if we don’t answer) or email me at [email protected]. I promise we will get back to you promptly!
All best wishes. Remember, we’re all in this together.  Please visit our webpage and our Facebook page for updates.
Sincerely,
Gina Loprinzo
